Barbara Greczny is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist working across photography, video, and installation. Trained as a portrait photographer, she developed an understanding of lighting and a sensitivity to the subtle ways photography can reveal character, presence, and emotion. She was a member of Symbiosis, a Toronto artists’ collective recognized for its guerrilla, site-specific exhibitions in abandoned buildings, where she developed socially engaged installation work. During her studies at OCAD University and later during her graduate studies in documentary media at TMU (formerly Ryerson University), her work expanded into research-driven, time-based projects exploring memory, identity, and representation. A major multimedia installation centred on her mother's dementia marked a shift toward spatial storytelling and the use of everyday objects as carriers of emotional meaning. Periods of her practice have unfolded alongside significant health challenges, which have shaped both the pace and direction of her work. Her recent work engages landscape as a site of memory and trace, creating contemplative, immersive experiences that reflect on time, perception, and lived experience.
